What is Pinoy Stir Fry Hotdog?
The Pinoy Stir Fry Hotdog, is a dish made of the red hotdogs which are famous here in the Philippines. It is partnered with a thick sauce made from banana ketchup, and mainly oyster sauce, along with vinegar, sugar, and common seasonings like salt and pepper.
This is a very simplified method of doing the stir fry (ginisa), which is a cooking technique that originated from Chinese people, which has then spread to the Philippines and other neighboring countries.
How to Make Stir Fry Hotdog?
The ingredients partnered with hotdogs are really common and chances are, you have it in the kitchen already with you. All you have to do is gather them up, and we’re ready to cook. This is super easy and is really quick to make so if you’re busy, don’t even sweat it.
You’re going to cook all of the ingredients in one pan only so you don’t need to think about the cleaning up part too much.
First thing you need to do is to cook the hotdogs. After that, you’re just going to saute the garlic and onions, and then pour in the sauce ingredients and stir them all up until you have them all cooked and the sauce has thickened.
Since the method of stir frying usually uses high heat for cooking, take note that when you’re sauteing the onion and the garlic, keep the heat on low first. This is because these ingredients might get burnt easily and taint the overall flavor of the dish.
In some restaurants, it is a common sight to see that this dish is served on sizzling plates, hence the alternate name for this–the sizzling hotdog.
So if you have sizzling plates available with you at your place, it is a good idea to utilize it as it will keep the dish hot for a long time, which is a large factor in keeping this dish at its best.
Notes on Ingredients
For the hotdogs, we use the red hotdogs here in this recipe since they are the most cheap ones and the most common ones you can find here in the country. But if you want to try this and you’re in a different location, other forms of hotdogs and sausages are okay to use.
