What is a Mushroom Burger?

A mushroom burger is basically a sandwich consisting of one or more patties made out of mushroom as a replacement, instead of the traditionally used ground meat. In this case we use an oyster mushroom that’s finely chopped.

It is an edible mushroom which is first cultivated in Germany, but is now commercially available all around the world.

Oyster mushroom is a good choice as an alternative for ground beef meat because it packs a lot of health benefits. It helps prevent accumulating chronic diseases and helps strengthen the immune system since it contains a rich amount of proteins, vitamins, minerals, and some antioxidants. In addition to that, it has low calorie content and is fat free.

Ingredients You’ll Need

Oyster Mushroom

Oyster mushrooms are quite trending in the country these last few years. Fresh ones can be sourced from your local farm stores or in certain supermarkets.

Cheese

We will be using regular processed cheddar cheese. We will use the cheese in the patty itself and as part of the burger sandwich. You can use brands like Eden, Kraft, Ques-O, Cheezee, Danes, and the likes.

Equipment You’ll Need

  • Frying Pan- We will be using a regular shallow frying pan as we will just pan fry the patties once we made them. Alternatively, you can also use a griddle or an electric griller if you have one.

How to Make a Mushroom Burger

Making a mushroom burger is an easy task. You don’t need to have a vast knowledge about cooking to even make one. It’s a straightforward process without all the gruelling and overwhelming methods involved. It’s just as simple as forming the mixing and forming the patties and then cooking them.

For the mixing of all the ingredients, it is important that all of the ingredients are either finely chopped or finely grated especially the mushrooms. This is to avoid having big chunks in forming a patty. Our goal is to have a fine-made patty so it would look nice and easy to eat.

Mushroom Mix

If you have a food processor lying around your household, it is a perfect tool for this recipe so you don’t need to manually chop the ingredients by hand.

This recipe can make about five medium-sized patties. If you want to have more or less patties, or a larger size patty, you can adjust the amount of ingredients accordingly. 

Optional Ingredients for the Mushroom Burger

This recipe includes all the base ingredients which you need to make a delicious patty, but of course it is not limited to that.

For additional flavor to your burger, you can add in onion rings, some tomatoes, and also sauces such as mayonnaise, ketchup, or even mustard. Remember that the toppings you can add on to the burger are almost limitless, and it’s entirely up to you.

How To Serve Mushroom Burger

You can always treat the mushroom burger as a regular burger. You can either create a burger sandwich with fillings and sides or make a burger steak with gravy on top. Since we’re on the healthier side, go ahead and pair your snack or dinner with a healthy fresh fruit juice.

Homemade Mushroom Burger Recipe

Equipment

  • Frying Pan

Ingredients

  • 2 cups oyster mushroom, chopped
  • 2 pcs onion, chopped
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 pcs egg
  • ½ cup cheddar cheese, grated (you can use Eden, Ques-O, Cheezee)
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil
  • salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine all of the ingredients. Mix until all of them are well-incorporated.
  • Scoop a part of the mixture and flatten it to make a patty. Repeat for the rest of the mixture.
  • In a frying pan, pour-in and heat the cooking oil in low to medium heat.
  • Add-in the mushroom patty. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes or until nicely browned. Flip the patty and repeat the process.
  • Transfer to a plate and assemble the burger using buns or bread. Optional ingredients such as mayonnaise, ketchup, and onions may be used. Serve and enjoy!
