What is Jollibee-style Fried Chicken (Homemade Chicken Joy)?
The Jollibee-style fried chicken is basically that–a fried chicken, but with the use of some other seasonings instead of the usual, to give that distinct taste that we all know and love.
Fried chicken is a dish which consists of chicken parts that is then coated in a thick batter using all-purpose flour, and cornstarch filled with seasonings to produce a crispy and juicy chicken dish once pan-fried or deep-fried.
How to Cook Jollibee Chicken Joy At Home?
The thought of making the Jollibee fried chicken hack at home might seem intimidating at first, but it’s actually a pretty straightforward procedure.
This is really quick and easy to do, and if you have a thermometer for the oil and a timer available with you at home, you can produce fail-proof fried chicken. If you’ve ever wanted to make your own special Jollibee chicken joy at home here’s how:
First thing you need to do is to marinate the chicken for about an hour to give the insides of the chicken flavor, because most of the fried chicken we eat in restaurants or fast food chains taste rather bland when it comes to the actual meat part.
Second part is we have to make our flour mixture by mixing it with the seasonings and we will then coat the chicken with this. Then last, is to deep fry the chicken until it becomes crispy and juicy, a perfect combination!
Fried Chicken Tips
- To prevent the chicken dish from being crispy and tasty outside, but still undercooked inside, what you can do is to poke each chicken piece with a toothpick or any other long and thin stick until it reaches the bones in three to five different areas of the chicken before frying it. This way, the heat will enter inside of the chicken easily and the insides will cook much faster.
- Don’t get too excited about the five-spice powder! There is a recommended about in the recipe on how much five-spice you need to put in, but in case you want to change things up, make sure that you add this only in small increments when incorporating this ingredient into the mixture because it tends to have a strong taste and it might ruin the fried chicken’s overall flavor.
Notes on Ingredients
Five Spice Powder
This recipe makes use of the seasoning called five spice powder. If you can’t find this powder available anywhere near you, you can simply make your own by combining equal amounts of ground black peppercorns, ground anise, ground cinnamon, ground cloves and ground fennel seeds.
Just make sure to mix them thoroughly or shake them in a bottle until they’re well-blended.
