How to Cook Oyster Mushroom Tempura
Once you have the ingredients in making the mushroom tempura prepared, cooking it can be done in a jiffy. The amount of ingredients you need can be easily adjusted accordingly depending on how many you want to make.
So the process involves marinating the mushrooms, then coating them in batter, and then deep frying the mushrooms. A pretty straightforward procedure.
The first step is to marinate the mushrooms. Take note that doing this can take up about an hour or two so you need to prepare this ahead of time. The purpose of this is to impart a tasty and lasting flavor for the mushrooms once we cook them. It also makes the mushroom’s texture quite tender so we have a chewy inside of the tempura.
The key to having a crispy batter is to deep fry them. So it is important that the mushrooms are completely submerged in the oil. This also makes the cooking time faster.
When placing the mushrooms in the pan, be sure not to drop them, because the batter might fall off from the mushroom and will result in a messy tempura, so be very mindful of this.
How to Serve Oyster Mushroom Tempura
Oyster mushroom tempura, like a regular tempura, is good to be eaten with cooked white rice or on its own.
The oyster mushroom tempura is already great in itself, but it is also a good idea to have a dip partnered with it. You can use a dip of your choice, ranging from the basic ones, such as ketchup, mayonnaise, or other garlic dips.
You can also make a tempura sauce–consisting of soy sauce, and mirin–if you want it as close to a traditional tempura as possible.
